Meteorology warned!  Heavy rain is expected in the earthquake area


Şahin Şahbaz, Director of the Analysis and Forecasts of the General Directorate of Meteorology, stated that heavy rainfall is expected again on Friday and Saturday in the provinces affected by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes on 6 February.

Şahbaz, General Directorate of Meteorology Analysis and Forecasts Branch Manager, gave information about the precipitation situation of the earthquake region and the situation in Adıyaman and Şanlıurfa, which were affected by the floods caused by heavy rainfall.

Reminding that the General Directorate had given an orange code warning about the precipitation in the region the day before, Şahbaz said that the precipitation started in line with their expectations from the evening hours.

AMOUNT OF RAINFLOWING IN THE EARTHQUAKE ZONE

Shahbaz gave the following information about the amount of precipitation per square meter in the region:

“In the 24-hour period between March 14 at 12:00 and March 15 at 12:00, the highest rainfall in Adıyaman was measured by our station at Çat Dam in Çelikhan district of Adıyaman with 145.4 kilograms per square meter. The highest rainfall measured in Şanlıurfa was recorded as 113.7 kilograms per square meter in Karaköprü. 67.4 kilograms per square meter in Nurhak in Kahramanmaraş, 40.3 kilograms per square meter in Araban in Gaziantep, 22.5 kilograms per square meter in Elbeyli district of Kilis, 29.6 kilograms per square meter in Hatay Iskenderun, 24 per square meter in Adana .6, Diyarbakır Çermik 35.8 kilograms per square meter, we have a measurement station in Elazığ Sivrice Hazarbaba village 86.1 kilograms per square meter, 17.4 kilograms per square meter in Osmaniye Düziçi district and 175.9 kilograms per square meter in Malatya Doğanşehir. ”

Stating that the precipitation continues in some parts of the region, Şahbaz said, “The precipitation has decreased considerably, especially in the western parts of the earthquake zone, and the precipitations in the east and north continue to be locally strong. We expect the rains to continue with local strength until night hours. After midnight, we predict that the precipitation will weaken and continue as intermittent and light showers.” he said.

“WE WILL SEE STRONG RAINS ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY”

Shahbaz said the following about the precipitation situation of the next week in the earthquake area:

“We predict that it will rain again from the west of the region. We will see heavy rains on Friday and Saturday. According to our data, precipitation will be strong around Adana on Friday. We expect heavy rains to be seen in the southwest of Gaziantep, Kilis, Kahramanmaraş and Adıyaman, and light showers in other places. On Saturday, we expect heavy rains in the entire earthquake zone.”

Shahbaz demanded that the weather forecasts be followed on “www.mgm.gov.tr” and phone applications, and the warnings here be followed. (AA)
