“In the Alpes-Maritimes, things are gaining momentum,” the President of the Republicans of the Alpes-Maritimes department, Charles-Ange Ginesy, was alarmed this Tuesday morning. at the microphone of BFMTV, claiming to fear a new m influx of migrants into this territory bordering Italy.

More than 12,000 migrants arrived on Italian shores last week, the overwhelming majority of which in Lampedusa, according to the Italian Ministry of the Interior. A migratory flow for which France is preparing and which could weigh particularly heavily on the department headed by Charles-Ange Ginesy, as feared by the latter, who considered the situation already worrying before last week.

“This migratory flow is a colossal submersive wave. We cannot leave things as they are,” he insists, deploring the arrival in 2022 of 5,000 children, “more than a third of national immigration”, and who are the responsibility of the social istance (ASE) of the department. “Today we are at a figure that is up 53% compared to last year,” he points out.

The elected official calls for the creation of an admission and orientation center for minors, so that they are distributed across the national territory, so that “all of these children do not remain in the Alpes-Maritimes , because we can no longer do it.” Charles-Ange Ginesy, who says he alerted the government to the situation in April, asks that Europe and its member states manage this crisis and not leave a “department alone, faced with this wave which does not can be controlled.

The day before, the prefect of Alpes-Maritimes Bernard Gonzales affirmed that the flow of arrivals in the department was intensifying and highlighted the logistical difficulties already encountered by the authorities in welcoming migrants. “From September 8 to 14, we have a figure of nearly 1,500 arrests which were carried out. And the border police premises are a little cramped to house all the people arrested,” he explained at a press conference.
