The activities of the Yeltsin Center must be stopped, since the information it disseminates does not always reflect reality, said Nikita Mikhalkov, chairman of the Union of Cinematographers of Russia, during the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.
“Do you understand that the little children who come there [в «Ельцин-центр»]the first thing they see is a terrifying historical animated film about the history of our country, where all the dirt, abomination, betrayal, slavery, horror and light in the window is only a single person who came and changed it all, ”said the director (quote by RIA Novosti).
According to him, the center needs to be converted into a museum of modern history, “but honestly, where it will be clear why it happened, who did it, what it led to, what it can lead to.” At the same time, he clarified that he was not opposed to the fact that the country had a museum dedicated to its first president, Boris Yeltsin.
“… This does not mean that there should not be a museum of the first president of Russia, in any case, but do not make me, as a visitor to this museum, believe you that the whole history of my country is “abomination and shit” and only the saints of the nineties did me so happy,” Mikhalkov added.
For the closure or reformatting of the work of the Yeltsin Center, some politicians, artists and public figures have repeatedly advocated. For example, in the summer of 2022, the leader of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, Gennady Zyuganov, demanded to close the center. “It is necessary to close the Yeltsin Center in Yekaterinburg, to prevent its poisonous tentacles from spreading in the form of a branch in Moscow, and Yeltsin himself to be recognized as a traitor to the Motherland,” the politician said in his Telegram channel.
Last year, it was reported that employees of the Center “E” conducted an inspection at the “Yeltsin Center” in Yekaterinburg on the fact of the distribution of extremist literature.
