Mikkel Bjerg, winner of the 4th stage and new leader of the Dauphiné: “I was a little surprised”

“Would you say that you surprised yourself Today ?
A little, yes. It was super hot and you needed very good legs to win on such a course. It’s the kind of course that requires a lot of power, with a lot of rebound and a long false flat going up to the line, and where if you’re not in great shape, you can quickly explode and lose two minutes .

This is your first victory among the pros at 24…
I would have liked to win a time trial a little earlier in my short career, but the level among the specialists is so high! I often did sixth, fifth, third… Today was my day, it was the first time I managed to set the ideal time on D-Day in a World Tour race. Filippo Ganna, Wout van Aert and Remco Evenepoel weren’t there but it’s still a very big victory for me. I think I have the potential to repeat big times like him in the future. In any case, I feel that I continue to progress year after year.

Are you going to defend this yellow jersey over the next few days?
The objective is the general clification for Adam (Yates). He is still in the game (he set the 8th time of the day 45” from Jonas Vingegaard). I would like to keep this yellow jersey but we are not going to put five guys on the road tomorrow (Thursday) to control the breakaway. Many runners will no doubt want to take this opportunity to take it from me. »
