Milan, “Last generation” activists deface the monument to Vittorio Emanuele

New “Last Generation” blitz in Milan in Piazza Duomo, climate activists daubed the monument to Vittorio Emanuele with yellow paint and were immediately carried away by the carabinieri. Before making an appointment in Piazza Duomo, the activists wrote this press release, always shouting «Let’s not pay for the fossil»: «Is defacing a statue scandalous? I say that the real scandal is the absolute indifference of the government towards our lives, which the climate crisis will destroy and is already destroying. Italy is the world’s sixth largest investor in fossil fuels, investing even more than Russia and Saudi Arabia. We must immediately get rid of oil, coal and gas: it is possible to do so, only the political will is missing because we live in a system in which the profit of a few matters more than the lives of millions of people”.

The previous protest by the Last Generation boys in Milan was the one in via Palmanova last February 22: on that occasion they grabbed the banner “We don’t pay for fossils” and invaded the street with the aim of stopping traffic. For a few minutes the cars remained stationary, creating some discontent among motorists who tried to drag the activists away. At the time, the activists had opened a door for the doctors who were late for their visits. Also in this case the demonstration ended with the arrival of the police.
