Neymar very close to Pelé's goalscoring record... or still far from the "King's" total?

Even if Neymar, in full success with PSG (11 goals in as many matches, all competitions combined), equaled Pelé's record for goals in selection against Ghana this Friday in Le Havre or against Tunisia Tuesday at the Parc des Princes in preparation for the World Cup (8:30 p.m. in both cases, Live commentary on our site), this feat would not be one … in the eyes of the Brazilian federation (CBF), which disputes the statistics of FIFA, reports the Brazilian daily O Globo Friday.

Matches against club teams or regional selections not taken into account

According to the international federation, Neymar, 74 goals in the Auriverde jersey, is only three units behind Pelé, credited with 77 goals. But the Brazilian federation considers that it lacks no less than 18 goals in the official total of the "King", which does not take into account the goals scored in selection by the national legend against club teams or regional selections.

Pelé notably scored against Malmö and AIK (Sweden), Inter Milan, Atlético de Madrid, Guadalajara and Léon (Mexico), but also in Brazil against Bahia, Atlético-MG, and the regional teams of Pernambucano and Amazonia. That is a total not of 77 but of 95 goals, according to the CBF.
