Przedsiębiorstwo Państwowe Porty Lotnicze (PPL) manages the largest passenger airport in Poland, i.e. Warsaw Chopin Airport.
“We are observing that passenger traffic at Chopin Airport is growing. In January 2023, compared to the record-breaking 2019, the traffic is already at the level of 95%. The situation is similar with transfer passengers – Chopin Airport is recording an increase and is approaching the 2019 level.” – said the president of PPL, Stanisław Wojtera, on Monday. plans for the upcoming summer flight schedule at Chopin Airport.

As for the number of air operations (aircraft take-offs and landings), there were 11,000 in January this year. 542, against 14 thousand. 864 in January 2019.

The head of PPL announced that two new carriers will appear at the Warsaw airport in the upcoming summer season: Icelandic Play with flights to Reykjavik and the returning Brussels Airlines with flights to Brussels. In addition, there will be new routes, e.g. Wizz Air and also Irish Ryanair returning to Chopin Airport.
As Wojtera notes, over the last three years the passenger profile has changed from business to tourist. “We observe a smaller number of managers, but in turn we see the return of passengers from Mazovia” – he said.
He emphasized that the capital’s port is approaching the capacity limit. “The reason is primarily the growing passenger traffic, restrictions related to +Core Night+ and the number of stands serving large aircraft” – he pointed out. As he explained, throughput consists of several elements, including efficiency of aviation, terminal, urban (road) or environmental infrastructure. “Currently, we can only carry out 600 operations a day and these are the limitations resulting from the regulations” – he said.
As he added, the Warsaw-Radom Airport will be a “perfect complement” to Chopin Airport. In his opinion, it will be a natural choice not only for the inhabitants of Radom, but also for the entire Mazovia and neighboring provinces – Świętokrzyskie, Kielce and Lubelskie.
“The airport can formally start operating from April 20, while the first regular operation is scheduled for April 27,” he said. He reminded that the Warsaw-Radom Airport received a public use airport certificate issued on the basis of European regulations. This means that the port meets all the requirements of EU law, including in terms of infrastructure and security.
As announced, Warsaw-Radom Airport will be able to fly to five regular PLL LOT destinations: Copenhagen, Paris, Preveza, Rome and Tirana. In addition, the port of Radom will offer seven charter destinations, such as: Antalya, Burgas, Djerba, Monastir, Palma de Mallorca, Taba, Varna.
