Pension reform: article 7 confirming the postponement of the retirement age to 64 years adopted by the Senate

This time, elected officials of the nation have indeed expressed themselves on the postponement of the legal retirement age. The majority of senators gave their agreement, on the night of Wednesday to Thursday, shortly after midnight, raising the legal age to 64, compared to 62 previously. It was passed with 201 votes in favor and 115 against.
The suspense was not huge on the benches of the upper house, in the hands of the Republicans. The latter have never hidden that they were in favor of this measure, which was not affected by the adjustments requested from the government if the latter wished to receive the support of the LR group.
An article never examined at the Assembly
However, tensions arose as soon as the beginning of the review of this article, the elected representatives of the three left-wing groups believing that they have been deprived of the right to speak by the activism and tricks of the senatorial majority. The overwhelming majority of the 1,300 amendments tabled by left-wing senators thus fell with the wave of a magic wand after the LRs voted for a complete rewrite of article 7, so as to render more than 1,100 amendments inadmissible and auguring for a much faster vote than expected.
During his visit to the National Assembly, Article 7 could not even be studied. The fate of this article was much more uncertain at the Palais-Bourbon, to the point that the unions demanded for days from the rebellious deputies to put an end to the strategy of obstruction debates materialized by the filing of thousands of BIA amendments. Unions which had, in the end, never been heard.
