UK police investigators are re-examining the case of an eight-year-old Indian-origin schoolboy. He had gone missing four decades ago while returning home. Sussex Police have said that Surrey and its senior investigators from the Sussex Maze Crime Team met Vishal’s father, Vishambhar Mehrotra, last week to discuss a recent documentary and broadcast series on the case shown in the UK. The probe team also told him that the matter was being further probed. Vishambhar Mehrotra has since been campaigning for a thorough investigation into the circumstances under which his son disappeared and was murdered.
“We understand the pain of Mr Mehrotra and Vishal’s family and their curiosity about what happened to him in 1981,” said Sussex Police’s Investigative Superintendent Mark Chapman. is determined to identify those responsible for Vishal’s tragic death and bring justice to him and his family. So far an intensive police investigation has been conducted but we are prepared to receive and welcome any new information and the authorities will continue to follow any reasonable direction in the investigation.
