Continuing on the path of terror, violence, killing and war will give Hamas what it wants. We cannot do this, wrote US President Joe Biden on Tuesday on the X website.
“Hamas carried out a terrorist attack because it fears nothing more than Israelis and Palestinians living side by side in peace. Continuing on the path of terror, violence, killing and war is giving Hamas what it wants. We can’t do this,” Biden wrote in a post on the website.
It is not clear what exactly the president’s words mean and whether they are in favor of a permanent extension of the current truce. On Tuesday, the heads of the CIA, Mossad, the Prime Minister of Qatar and the head of the Egyptian services held talks in the capital of Qatar on extending the truce for another few days. The Israeli government has clearly announced that it wants to continue its offensive after the hostages are released and the current pause ends.
So far, the White House has argued that a permanent ceasefire would be beneficial to Hamas. However, in recent days, President Biden has suggested several times that he would like to end the conflict quickly and that he “feels that all the players in the region are looking for a way to end this so that all the hostages are released and Hamas no longer controls Gaza.”
