Russian President Vladimir Putin, together with Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, took part in the opening of penger train traffic on the fourth line of the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD-4) on City Day on September 9. The Kremlin press service reported this.
During the ceremony, held via video link from Zaryadye Park, traffic was also launched along Bagration Avenue (the northern backup of Kutuzovsky Avenue) and the southern section of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter (MSD).
“Today, of course, another very serious step has been taken in the development of the Moscow transport hub. Everything that has been done today is for the benefit of Moscow, the Moscow region and all the people who live and come to this region. We are talking about millions of people, without any exaggeration, whose living conditions will be improved,” Putin said during the ceremony.
At the same time, the president pointed out that this is also a serious step forward for the region’s economy.
MCD-4, 86 km long, will run from west to east through Moscow and will connect seven central railway stations of the city: Kursky, Yaroslavsky, Kazansky, Leningradsky, Savelovsky, Rizhsky and Belorussky. The diameter with 37 stations will relieve congestion on sections of the Circle, Kalininskaya, Solntsevskaya lines, its daily penger traffic will exceed 450,000 people. The Moscow ticket system and free transfers to the metro and MCC will also operate on the new MCD.
Bagration Avenue is a six-lane toll highway about 10 km long, which will run from the Moscow City business center and the Third Transport Ring to the transport interchange at the intersection of the Moscow Ring Road with Molodogvardeyskaya Street, and then exits onto the Northern Byp of Odintsovo near Moscow. As Sobyanin noted earlier, the new road will reduce travel time for more than 700,000 Muscovites and hundreds of thousands of residents of the Moscow region.
The southern section of the Moscow High-Speed Diameter is a new highway from Entuziastov Highway to the 32nd kilometer of the Moscow Ring Road.
In mid-August, Putin and Sobyanin opened traffic on the MCD-3 line, connecting Moscow Zelenograd and the town of Ramenskoye near Moscow. The ceremony took place via video link from the Manege as part of the exhibition “The Year of the New Transport Frame”.
