Qatar 2022: the stages of discord

To host the 64 matches that will be played on its soil between November 20 and December 18, Qatar has seen things big. Seven enclosures have thus emerged from the sand to host the meetings of this 2022 World Cup, while the Khalifa stadium, built in 1976 for the Gulf Cup, has been completely renovated.

But between the CO2 emissions linked to these developments, the installation of air conditioning systems or even the densification of air traffic to manage the influx of supporters, Qatar should not be able to reach the neutral carbon footprint he promised before the competition. Our journalists Alban Traquet and Alexis Danjon take stock of this ecological controversy.
