Rape of female students in Florence, ex-carabiniere convicted
The Court of Cassation confirmed the 4-year sentence for Pietro Costa, one of the former carabinieri accused of raping two US students aged 19 and 21 on the night between 6 and 7 September 2017 in Florence, after having taken them back with the service car in their Florentine home, in Borgo Santi Apostoli.

In the first instance Costa was sentenced to 5 and a half years and then the Florence Court of Appeal reduced the sentence to 4 years. The other former carabiniere, Marco Camuffo, who had chosen the abbreviated procedure and was therefore tried separately, was already definitively sentenced last April by the Cassation to 4 years and 4 months.
Heavy, during the trial, the accusations and the stories of the two girls were the dramatic stories of the two American students, aged 19 and 21, about the violence suffered by the two carabinieri after a night of alcohol and drugs in a disco.

Rape Florence, carabiniere: “I am devastated”
One of the two carabinieri accused with his colleague of raping two American students had confided in his lawyer: he said he was devastated and aware of having done an unspeakable thing while reiterating that the relationship was consensual. “I don’t know why I let myself be dragged into this situation,” the soldier had told his lawyer.
