Roy, Honorat, Camara… Brest is already thinking about next season

They had promised not to discuss the subject before the verdict of this season. But now that maintenance is validated, since Sunday, coach Éric Roy and sporting director Grégory Lorenzi will begin discussions on the extension of the contract of the first, which comes to an end in a few weeks. The 55-year-old from Nice signed on January 3, with the sole aim of avoiding relegation. Weaned off the bench for more than eleven years, he has therefore fulfilled his mission and naturally wishes to continue leading a team. It should be in Brest. But with what staff?

It is already certain that three holders will leave the club. Starting with the one who surely represents his biggest market value: Franck Honorat. The winger (27 in August) extended a season (until 2026), in the fall, in exchange for an exit voucher, provided that all parties are satisfied.

The other two certain departures concern two elements at the end of the contract: the left side Jean-Kévin Duverne (25 years old) and the defensive midfielder Haris Belkebla (29 years old). Finistère leaders failed to agree with the first on an extension, while, by mutual agreement, they did not seek to retain the second, at the club since 2018.

Lala should extend

Also free in June, Kenny Lala (31), who signed in early December and won the right-back position, should extend. It seems less well underway with striker Loïc Rémy (36) who, since the end of January, has still not appeared in L1, chaining physical glitches. Regarding the loans, Félix Lemaréchal (19 years old, no purchase option) will find his club (Monaco), just like Bradley Locko (21 years old, Reims) and Alberth Elis (27 years old, Bordeaux, L2), the defender and the attacker not having played enough for the automatic call to be exercised.

Only Mahdi Camara (24), the midfielder on loan from Saint-Étienne (L2), has had a string of meetings and could therefore sign a three-year contract for €2.5 million. He will see midfielder Hianga’a Mbock (23, Caen, L2) and striker Axel Camblan (19, Concarneau, National) return from loan, while the fate of left-back Jere Uronen (28) is notably linked to maintenance in the Bundesliga of Schalke 04 (17th), where he is on loan.

Finally, there remains the fate of holders who will be at the end of their contract in a year, such as goalkeeper Marco Bizot (32), midfielder Romain Del Castillo (27) and striker Steve Mounié (28). A subject that will have to be decided … after that of the coach.
