Scam: watch out for false parking tickets, fraudsters pretend to be the administration

Scam alert! The National Agency for Secure Titles (ANTS) warns of a new scam. Fraudsters pretend to be the administration by sending an e-mail in which they mention a “ parking non-compliant” and invite you to click on a link to pay a fine of 35 euros. An email in which web hackers invite the victim to pay quickly the fine “to avoid any increase”.

In this well imitated email, the authors invite the target to click on a link, an operation that should definitely not be followed. “ANTS does not collect payment of fines”, reminds the administration, while inviting Internet users to never communicate their “personal information on unofficial sites”. The administration then recalls that the only online platform where it is possible to pay fines is the government website amnes-gouv.fr.

An illicit payment site

France Blue reports that the town hall of Melun (Seine-et-Marne) also alerted to a fake PV scam on Tuesday September 24. This time, the false tickets are placed directly on the windshields of several dozen motorists. Although they closely resemble those left by public highway agents, they have a QR code which links directly to an illicit payment site, whereas the French administration never uses a QR code for the payment of fines.

Last May, the Seine-et-Marne gendarmerie had already warned the population about the circulation of false PVs equipped with a malicious QR code. Other methods exist to steal data, such as SMS scams. A platform has been specifically set up to report messages or calls that appear fraudulent. There is also the possibility of calling 33 700.
