Sellin: the upcoming elections are also about whether a wave of liquidation of monuments to John Paul II will go through Poland

The upcoming elections are not only about whether Polish democracy will survive. These elections are also about whether a wave of liquidation of John Paul II monuments, names of streets and squares will go through Poland, said Jarosław Sellin, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage on Friday.
The deputy minister of culture referred on the air of the First Polish Radio to the reportage by Marcin Gutowski “Franciszkańska 3” broadcast on Monday on TVN24, which described the cases of three priests: Bolesław Saduś, Eugeniusz Surgent and Józef Loranc, and the reaction of the then Metropolitan of Krakow, Cardinal Karol Wojtyla.
He assessed that “the creators of the reportage slandering Karol Wojtyła are simply ignorant.” “This is material prepared for the thesis, to which the thesis was interpreted by the materials collected by the communist secret police, which they themselves did not use during the life of JPII, apparently they themselves had doubts about their credibility and about their strength when it comes to the possibility of effectively attacking their main enemy,” Sellin said.
He pointed out that “for the Soviets and communists in Poland, the main enemy was the Roman Catholic Church, every seminarian had a briefcase on his way to the seminary, and when he was ordained, it was kept for the rest of his life.” “Against every Roman Catholic clergyman in Poland,” he added.
As he said, “journalists brought up in the Third Polish Republic, who can practice free speech, e.g. thanks to John Paul II in such an unreliable, dishonest way, they attack the greatest authority in the history of Poland.
When asked how he treats the selective approach to archival resources left by the Security Service, he replied: “Media circles such as TVN or Gazeta Wyborcza accuse those who use materials collected by the Security Service and currently at the disposal of the Institute of National Remembrance, and meanwhile, when you can attack a person they care about, to attack them, it suddenly turns out that the SB materials are credible, they are taken out of their historical context, interpreted in their own way for the thesis, they are not confronted with other materials, they are almost sacred that they show the real truth of those times.”
“Some schizophrenia in the approach to this matter, because we remember what hysteria these circles always instigated when other people were scrutinized on the basis of these materials” – reminded the deputy head of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
He assessed that “left-liberal circles that believe in the determinism of history, which tells them that Western civilization must change in the left-liberal direction, with all the madness behind this ideology, which we have even recently learned about in the C40 program , believe that all those who interfere with the implementation of this civilizational project should be weakened or even eliminated.
He added that the teaching of the Catholic Church and John Paul II is so dangerous for the left-liberal ideological project that “you have to undercut its authority to say ‘don’t read this gentleman, because he is burdened with such a stain from his own past'”.
He pointed out that the upcoming elections are “not only about whether Polish democracy will survive, because people who want to imprison political opponents, liquidate unfavorable media, etc. are coming to power; these elections are not only about whether Poland’s sovereignty and independence will remain; they are also about whether a wave of liquidation of JPII monuments, names of streets and squares will go through Poland”. “These elections are also about that,” emphasized the deputy minister of culture.
Sellin was also asked about the civic bill on the liquidation of TVP Info and the abolition of subscription fees, which was rejected by the Sejm on Thursday. He pointed out, among other things, that “the irresponsibility of this proposal lies in the fact that it is public media, especially news stations, that have certain obligations that commercial media do not have when it comes to state security during natural disasters, during war, in at the time of the threat of war.
“It is also necessary to take into account that these obligations are imposed on public media, and an information station on public television is simply necessary, the only information station on public television is TVP Info. Our political opponents say that they will liquidate it, which of course also results from the fact that they cannot stand criticism,’ emphasized the deputy head of the Ministry of Culture. (PAP)
