Southgate sees 'positives' despite England loss

Gareth Southgate, the coach of the England team relegated to League B of the League of Nations, confided his feelings on the defeat in Italy (1-0) in a press conference: “I can't be too picky about the performance, we had more possession, more shots, more shots on target, I think we played well for big parts of the game. Everyone will comment on the result, but there were positives. It's really difficult to determine why we don't score. We are where we are in terms of timing (in view of the World Cup, editor's note). We have to do our best to keep the guys on track. The result will dictate the reactions, but we weren't far behind in terms of performance tonight and I have to make sure the players continue to believe in what they are doing.»
