Sporting Portugal delay Benfica title

If successful, Benfica could lift his 38th title of Portuguese champion. But, after a sluggish end to the first period, Roger Schmidt’s players could only pocket a point at Sporting (2-2) on Sunday, at the end of the penultimate day of the Portuguese Championship. With a two-point lead over FC Porto, Benfica, who face Santa Clara next Sunday, will have to do as well as their distance opponent for the title.

Trincao opened the scoring for Sporting (39th). Ousmane Diomande doubled the bet shortly after (44th). Back to the wall, Benfica remobilized and launched an ault on Franco Israel’s cage. Fredrik Aursnes scored the goal from the start (71st), before seeing the young Joao Neves equalize in added time (90th +4). This snatched point at the end of the match could be important next Sunday.
