Survey: 37% of Poles use e-commerce platforms due to the competitive prices of goods

44 percent of Poles said that they save time by buying goods through e-commerce platforms, and 37 percent. of respondents pointed to their competitive prices, according to a survey of Poles, Portfel Własny. Almost half of their users complain, for example, about the poor quality of goods offered by some sellers.
Saving time is important for all age groups, including the most for 40-49 and 50-59 year-olds (51 and 48 percent respectively) – according to the Santander Consumer Bank study “Polaków Own Wallet: marketplace as the future of e-commerce”.
In turn, competitive product prices were most often indicated by people aged 18-29 and seniors over 60 (40% and 56%).
It was indicated that 44 percent of Poles said that they save time by buying goods on e-commerce platforms, and 37 percent. of respondents indicated competitive prices.
Next, respondents buying in marketplaces pointed to the convenience of not having to search for a given product on the websites of different suppliers (36%). This aspect was most valued by people over 50 (45%).
“Poles shopping in marketplaces also appreciate the availability of many payment methods, such as BLIK, Google Pay or Apple Pay (29%). It was the most important for respondents before the age of 30 and 40 (37% and 36%, respectively)” – comments Patryk Perliński from Santander Consumer Bank.
He added that 28 percent of users of shopping platforms noticed the availability of goods from various categories in one place; it was appreciated most by respondents aged 50-59 and over 60 (in both cases 36 percent). “Every fourth Pole buying in marketplaces noted a greater sense of security in terms of payments and seller verification via the platform (24%). It was the most important for 40-year-olds (33%)” – he pointed out.
When asked about the disadvantages of shopping platforms, almost half of the respondents put the low quality of goods offered by some sellers in the first place (47%). This bothers the 50-59 year olds the most (57%). Next, the respondents pointed to limited contact with the store from which the ordered products come (25%). This is what the 40-49 year olds (33%) miss the most.
The respondents also mentioned the inconvenience of different delivery times for goods ordered at the same time (24%). This group included the largest number of people before the age of 30 and 40 (29% and 31%, respectively).
The study shows that in the last year, when shopping on such platforms, for example, every third customer of marketplaces paid for the order with a credit card (37%). Next, buyers used deferred payments (26%) or an online renewable limit (23%).
The survey was commissioned by Santander Consumer Bank using standardized computer-assisted telephone interviews (CATI) conducted by the Market and Social Research Institute (IBRiS) in January 2023. A representative group of 1,000 adult Poles participated in the survey. (PAP)
