Sweet song, Goncourt prize signed Leïla Slimani, will be adapted into a series with Nicole Kidman
The novel, which has sold more than a million copies, traces the murder of two children by their nanny. It is inspired by a crime committed in 2012 in New York.
Inspired by a news item that occurred in New York in 2012 and crowned with the Goncourt Prize in 2016the novel Soft song by Franco-Moroccan author Leïla Slimani, will be adapted into a series by HBO with Nicole Kidman. The American channel has reached an agreement with the production company Legendary Entertainment “to develop and co-produce a series based on Leïla Slimani’s book Soft song (The perfect nanny, in English)», HBO announced in a statement on Saturday, January 28. In the cast of the future series, the Australian-American star Nicole Kidman and the American actress Maya Erskine, who will also be the co-executive producers.
This is the second screen adaptation of the novel. Soft song (Gallimard editions) for which Leïla Slimani won the Goncourt Prize in 2016, the most prestigious literary prize in France. The novel recounts the murder of two young children by their nanny, an experienced and strange woman to whom the parents of the children had become attached. It is inspired by a crime committed in October 2012 in New York which claimed the lives of two children aged two and six. The murderer was sentenced in May 2018 to life imprisonment. The book, which has sold more than a million copies in France and has been translated around the world, has already been adapted for cinema in France by director Lucie Borleteaustarring Leïla Bekhti and Karin Viard.
