The European Parliament votes a resolution for the families of migrant workers

The European Parliament on Thursday voted in favor of a resolution calling on FIFA to help compensate the families of migrant workers who died, as well as workers who suffered rights abuses, during the run-up to the World Cup.

MEPs also urged the Qatari authorities to carry out a full investigation into human rights abuses ahead of the competition. The resolution also deplored reports of violations of the LGBT community in Qatar and called on the country to decriminalize same-sex relationships. A number of MEPs wore the anti-hate armbands seven World Cup captains couldn’t sport due to pressure from FIFA.
