It is not one but two trials for which the fourteen defendants implicated to varying degrees were dismissed for their role in the ination of history and geography professor Samuel Paty, on October 16, 2020, at the exit of his college in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines). After two and a half years of work, the investigating judges of the anti-terrorism unit issued their indictment order. It targets eight adults and six minors at the time of the events. The former will be judged before the specially composed ize Court of Paris. The latter will be dealt with by the juvenile court.
The author of the ination of Samuel Paty, Abdoullakh Anzorov, an 18-year-old Russian refugee of Chechen origin, was shot by the police at the scene of the crime, where he had beheaded his victim. He had claimed his gesture in an audio message in Russian, congratulating himself on having “Avenged the Prophet”. For magistrates, “Anzorov, already rooted in violence from a young age in view of the procedures highlighted, became strongly radicalized in the summer of 2020”.
The judges accuse two friends of Anzorov, Azim Epsirkhanov and Naïm Boudaoud, who had accompanied him to buy weapons and conveyed to the scene of the attack for the second, of being accomplices of the in. This is the heaviest offense retained in the adult trial.
Alerted by a video posted online by the father of a student, Brahim Chnina, Anzorov reproached the teacher for having “imposed on the sight of his young pupils (…) at least one of the caricatures of the Prophet published by the newspaper Charlie Hebdo ». Misled by his daughter, who had not attended the course of Mr. Paty, Mr. Chnina, helped by the Islamist militant Abdelhakim Sefrioui, had struck in his video untruths on the content of the course devoted to freedom of expression held by the teacher. The investigating judges followed the recommendations of the prosecution, which had requested the abandonment of the offense of complicity for Chnina, Sefrioui and Mangel. In the case of Abdelhakim Sefrioui, for example, the investigators were unable to uncover any direct contact between him and Anzorov.
