The industrial tribunal of Marseille announced on Friday the postponement of its decision, in the case involving Olympique de Marseille and its former Argentinian coach, Marcelo Bielsa, who is claiming three million euros.

The Argentinian technician had resigned to everyone’s surprise on August 8, 2015, just after the first match of the 2015-2016 season (1-0 defeat against Caen at the Vélodrome) and had explained his decision by a disagreement with the management of the club around of his contract. In September 2022, he asked OM before the industrial tribunal of Marseille for three million euros.

A dispute over a salary increase

Marcelo Bielsa’s lawyers, My Benjamin Cabagno and Arnaud Ibanez, had denounced ” a fault “ and an “unfair strategy” of OM in the management of his employment contract. In question, according to the representatives of the coach, the non-respect of an agreement with the president of the club, at the time Vincent Labrune, relating to a 25% increase in Bielsa’s salary between the first and second seasons. .

OM, then represented by the general manager Philippe Perez and the lawyer of the majority shareholder at the time, Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, would have rejected the increase in monthly remuneration net of tax of 185,000 euros at the last moment. , leading to the departure of the Argentine technician.

The coach’s lawyers were claiming compensation for salaries increased by 25% for the 2015-2016 season, i.e. 2,775,000 euros, moral damage amounting to 20,000 euros and damage to image and notoriety of 180,000 euros, not to mention the settlement of a tax dispute. For its part, OM had asked the court to dismiss its former coach of all his claims.

Having failed to decide, the representatives of the employees and employers of the industrial tribunal postponed their decision. The case will be pleaded again before a professional judge on March 28, still in Marseille, according to lawyer Arnaud Ibanez.
