INTERVIEW – “The departments are unable to absorb the constant increase in the number of unaccompanied minors,” warns the vice-president of the embly of the Departments of France.
At the opening of 92e congress of departments, Wednesday in Strasbourg, the vice-president of the embly of Departments of France is sounding the alarm. It threatens to outlaw itself and no longer ume the cost of unaccompanied migrant minors, to “save” its departmental missions.
LE FIGARO. – You believe that unaccompanied minors are putting “hazard” the departments. What danger are you talking about?
Martine VAL. – The data speaks for itself: at the end of the summer, France had welcomed as many unaccompanied minors (UMA) than over the whole of 2022. If things continue at this pace, there will be 40,000 unaccompanied minors that we will have to take care of by the end of the year, for a budget of at least 2 billion euros. The departments are on the front line and unable to absorb the constant increase in the number of unaccompanied minors.
