A group of saboteurs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which entered the territory of the Belgorod region on May 22, was blocked and defeated. This was reported in the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry.

“The Kiev regime, having suffered a defeat in the city of Artemovsk, switched to the implementation of terrorist actions against the civilian population. <...> In the course of the counter-terrorist operation, the nationalist formations were blocked and defeated by air strikes, artillery fire and active actions of the units covering the state border of the Western Military District,” the statement said.

The Defense Ministry added that the Ukrainian servicemen were pushed back outside Russia, where fire continued on them “until they were completely eliminated.” As a result, more than 70 saboteurs, four combat armored vehicles and five pickup trucks were destroyed.

The department reported that saboteurs entered the territory of the Belgorod region on May 22 after intensive artillery shelling of the Kozinka international checkpoint.

On May 22, a sabotage and reconnaissance group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine entered the territory of the Graivoronsky district of the Belgorod region. The armed forces of the Russian Federation, together with the border service, the National Guard and the FSB, are taking the necessary measures to eliminate the enemy. As a result, 12 people were injured. Due to the penetration of saboteurs in the Belgorod region, a counter-terrorist operation regime has been introduced.

After the attack by saboteurs in the Belgorod region, the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia also opened a criminal case under six articles of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation – on the fact of a terrorist act, encroachment on the life of law enforcement officers, attempted murder, deliberate destruction or damage to property, illegal trafficking in weapons and explosives .

In the Belgorod region, a high (“yellow”) level of terrorist danger is indefinitely. Since October 19, 2022, by decree of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the average level of response has been set in the region. The same regime operates in seven other regions – Crimea, Sevastopol, Krasnodar Territory, Kursk, Voronezh, Bryansk and Rostov regions.
