The Marin Karmitz collection in Beaubourg
For the first time, the National Museum of Modern Art compares its rich photographic collections with a private collection, that of film producer Marin Karmitz, 84 years old, which was discovered by visitors to La Maison rouge by Antoine de Galbert in 2017. Karmitz has been a collector since the first shock of a child miner smeared with coal but radiant, by the German photographer Gotthard Schuh in 1937. Bringing together 500 photographs and documents, taken by some 120 photographers, is the challenge of this Melee when it is necessary to combine two perspectives, two genres, two generations, two heritage policies.
