DECRYPTION – Exorbitant cost of pavilions, excess bureaucracy, lack of manpower and over budget complicate life for exhibitors.

So what should happen this Tuesday afternoon, the choice of the location of the 2030 Universal Exhibition who will decide between Busan (South Korea), Rome and Riyadh, the 2025 edition in Osaka, Japan does not present itself under the best auspices. First reason: soaring prices. 5,000 euros per square meter: this is the stratospheric cost of a “type X” pavilion, according to several sources close to the organizers. Several countries discovered themselves unable, due to lack of time and money, to carry out their initial project, the Japanese organizers offered them a simple warehouse – at a price ten times higher than what is practiced elsewhere. One more snake to swallow on the most controversial construction site in the country.
