The second train in a day was blown up on the Baikal-Amur highway

On the section of the Baikal-Amur highway in Buryatia, the second freight train in a day was blown up. The explosion occurred on the byp around the Severomuisky tunnel, which was damaged by the first explosion on November 29. Both incidents may be special operations of the Security Service of Ukraine.

The detonation of the second train was reported by the Irkutsk edition of Mash, “Baza”, a source of a number of Ukrainian m media in the SBU, an eyewitness in social networks, found by Radio Liberty. The incident occurred approximately five kilometers from the Severomuisky tunnel, the alleged eyewitness reported. Presumably, we are talking about the railway branch of the Severomuisky byp. It is used as a reserve for the main BAM highway.

Tanks with fuel, which the train was transporting, exploded. According to Mash, two wagons were blown up. “Baza” reports that four wagons burned down. It is confirmed that no one was hurt. Official sources did not report the second accident at the time of publishing the news.

The Severomui byp is used as a detour around the tunnel of the same name, which was opened in 2003. The fifteen-kilometer tunnel is the longest on railways in Russia. The Baikal-Amur highway is actively used for trade with China.

The load on the highway increased sharply after the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine due to the movement of transit cargo from the port of Novorossiysk and the Baltic ports. Over the past hour, 149 million tons of cargo were transported through the Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian highways, according to Russian Railways statistics.

On the morning of December 1, it was reported that the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the article about the terrorist attack after the explosions at BAM. Officially, the authorities did not confirm this.
