The tender for the first phase of the housing project to be built by Turkish Airlines and Emlak Konut on a giant land of 3.6 million square meters on the route of Kanal Istanbul has been concluded. A contract worth 3.4 billion TL was signed with UNTD Construction.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that in 2018, in cooperation with Emlak Konut GYO and THY, residences will be built on an area of 3.6 million square meters in Dursunköy, Arnavutköy, on the route of Kanal Istanbul, for the employees of the 3rd airport.
For the project, which has been on the agenda since 2018, THY announced in a statement to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) last April that they have decided to start the housing project development work on 3.6 million square meters of land, which they half own with Emlak Konut.
In the statement, “Within the scope of the project, a total of 14.000 houses were built in stages and Emlak Konut Gayrimenkul Yatırım Ortaklığı A.Ş. It is planned that the right to draw will be determined by our partnership, with at least 3,000 of the residences to be sold to the employees of Turkish Airlines and its subsidiaries.
3.4 BILLION CONTRACTS SIGNED
For the construction of the first phase, the first signatures were signed on May 17, 2023. Şenol Özbek is the chairman of the board of directors of UNTD İnşaat A.Ş. and Bilal Şahinyılmaz is his istant. Özbek is the contractor that President Erdoğan scolded at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Hospice Social Service City last year.
Erdogan told the contractor that the construction would be completed in 36 months, “What does it say? How are you Fatih’s grandson? What are you doing? Let’s replace this contractor. UNTD had bought the housing tenders worth billions of liras held in the cities destroyed by the 6 February earthquakes.

Among the shareholders of the giant land with a view of the canal are AKP Deputy Chairman Numan Kurtulmuş and his family, AKP Istanbul Deputy Ahmet Hamdi Çamlı and his close relatives. He explained that the saved land was purchased by his late father in the “Selametköy” campaign organized by the Milli Gazete in 1977, on behalf of his brothers and himself, and that it was a small cooperative share that did not even have a title deed. 40 acres of the land in Dursunköy was sued because of this campaign.
Murat Ülker, who bought the 40-decare land in 2006, sold it to Emlak Konut in 2013. Emlak Konut sold half of the land to THY Gayrimenkul Yatirim ve Isletme A.S. for TL 312.5 million. Claiming that they bought the land from the campaign organized by Milli Gazete in 1977, 432 rights holders filed a lawsuit against Yıldız Holding, Emlak Konut and THY Gayrimenkul, owned by Murat Ülker. The 40-year legal struggle of 432 people who bought land from Selametköy Project but could not get their title deeds until today is still going on.
