The US announced a new arms package for Ukraine worth $150 million

The US administration announced on Thursday another arms package for Ukraine worth $150 million. The tranche included, among others: ammunition for air defense systems and anti-tank missiles.

According to the Pentagon in a statement, the new aid, the 49th package of weapons transferred from US forces, includes, among others: missiles for NASAMS air defense systems, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, ammunition for HIMARS systems and 155 and 105 mm howitzers, TOW and Javelin anti-tank missiles, as well as night vision equipment and winter equipment.

“Ukrainian forces are fighting valiantly to reclaim Russian-held territory and this additional support will help them continue the progress they are making,” said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Thursday’s package means that the total value of the equipment transferred to Ukraine so far is USD 43.9 billion. The Pentagon still has about 5 billion at its disposal to use before its current powers expire. President Joe Biden has asked Congress for additional funds.

“President Putin said that if Western weapons stop flowing to Ukraine, it will have a week to live. That’s why it’s critical that Congress rises to the challenge and pes additional appropriations,” said National Security Council spokesman John Kirby.
