Toyota accelerates in free practice 2 at Sebring


It was only a free practice session, but the lead that Toyota seems to have over the competition in Hypercar is starting to become impressive. During these EL2s, the two GR010s set the two best times, in 1’46″954 for the n°7 (Conway – Kobayashi – Lopez) and 1’47″272 for the n°8 (Buemi – Hartley – Hirakawa ). Reliable and fast, the Japanese prototypes are currently untouchable on the Florida circuit.
Behind, the closest rival is still a Ferrari 499P, the n°50 (Fuoco – Molina – Nielsen), which still clocks in at 1″167. The Cadillac n°2 (Bamber – Lynn – Westborok) is in 4th place , at 1″311, ahead of the second Ferrari, the n°51 (Pier Guidi – Calado – Giovinazzi), at 1″652.
The second group of Hypercars is led by the Glickenhaus n°708 (Dumas – Briscoe – Pla), at 2″746, ahead of the Porsche 963 n°5 (Cameron – Christensen – Makowiecki), at 2″828, and… the first of the LMP2s, the n°28 of the British JOTA team (Heinemeier Hansson – Fittipaldi – Rasmussen).
Peugeots more than 3 seconds away
The first Peugeot 9X8, n°94 (Duval – Menezes – Müller), is 9th at 3″424; the second, n°93 (Di Resta – Jensen – Vergne), is 14th at 3″960. The second Porsche, the n°6 (Estre – Lotterer – Vanthoor), occupies the 16th place, at 4″106. And the last Hypercar is still the Vanwall n°4 (Dillmann – Guerrieri – Villeneuve), 19th at 4″570 .
In the GTE Am category, the fastest is the #57 Ferrari 488 of Kessel Racing (Kimura – Huffaker – Serra), in 1’58″845.
