Van der Poel wins brilliantly in Antwerp

Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel won the Antwerp cyclo-cross World Cup round with authority on Sunday, where he beat Belgian Wout van Aert, directly into the game for his return to competition on Sunday.

Briton Tom Pidcock, reigning world champion, failed in 8th position.

The Belgian Laurens Sweeck, 4th in Antwerp, retains the lead in the World Cup.

Already victorious last Sunday in Hulst in the Netherlands on the occasion of his first event this season, “MVDP” won again, alone, without ever having been put in difficulty.

He reassured himself after a heavy fall the day before during a race in Boom in Belgium.

Only Wout Van Aert, author of the best start, seemed capable of challenging him for victory. But the Dutchman placed a sharp attack from the start of the second of seven rounds and was never seen again.

This Antwerp cyclo-cross was the scene of the first winter confrontation between Van der Poel and Van Aert, which will culminate in February at the World Championships in Hoogerheide, the Netherlands.
