The Dutch technician is ending his adventure with PSV Eindhoven, having arrived at the start of the season for his first experience as number 1 on a bench.
The former Dutch international Ruud van Nistelrooy has decided to step down as head coach of PSV Eindhoven with immediate effect, the club announced on Wednesday.
PSV won the Dutch Cup and are second in the league with one game to go, but the coach’s working methods were not unanimous within the club, local media reported.
“After several discussions on internal affairs that have taken place in recent weeks, a meeting took place on Tuesday evening between the management and Van Nistelrooythe club said in a statement.
“It was decided to focus on next Sunday’s game against AZ (Alkmaar) and to continue talking after the season“, but “Van Nistelrooy reported this morning that in his opinion there is not enough support within the club to continue any longer.“, explained the PSV.
At the request of the club, Fred Rutten, former coach of PSV, will take over from Sunday against AZ, on behalf of the last day of the championship.
“PSV regret Van Nistelrooy’s decision and are grateful to him for winning the Johan Cruijff Schaal (the Dutch Super Cup) and the TOTO KNVB Beker (Dutch Cup) this season and hopes to close it with second placeof the championship, the club said.
