VIDEO. Destroyed levee, washed away roads: 10,000 people evacuated in California after violent floods

Since the floods started in California on Friday March 10, they broke a dike on the Pajaro River and destroyed several roads. In some areas, thousands of people have been forced to evacuate. These outbursts were caused by yet another storm that swept over California, already the victim of a particularly rainy winter. Rainfall reaches up to 23 cm in places.

This rain, coming from a rather warm depression, was likely to melt part of the exceptional accumulated snowpack over the past three months. Enough to cause runoff that is impossible to contain for the waterways of this state in the west of the country.

US President Joe Biden on Friday approved a declaration of a state of emergency in California, to facilitate assistance from the federal state.
