War in Ukraine: Ukrainian soldier shot in execution video has been identified

His name was Tymofii. The Ukrainian army said on Tuesday that it had identified its prisoner soldier, who appears to have been killed by bullets after declaring “Glory to Ukraine”, in an execution video that has gone viral. Le Parisien was unable to verify the video.

“According to preliminary data, the deceased is the soldier of the 30th mechanized brigade Tymofiï Mykolayovych Shadoura”, which took part in the fighting near Bakhmout, in the east of the country. He had been considered missing since February 3, the Ukrainian army said on Telegram. The army gave no further information on this soldier.

In the video, which first circulated on Telegram, a prisoner soldier stands in a shallow trench, smoking a cigarette. The fighter shouts “Glory to Ukraine” before apparently being shot with automatic weapons.

Late Monday, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba wrote on Twitter that the “horrific” video was “proof that this war is genocidal”. It is “imperative” that International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan “launch an immediate ICC investigation into this heinous war crime”, he added. “Perpetrators must face justice. »

Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets sent the video to the country’s “international partners”. “Once again, they are violating the Geneva conventions. They will not escape responsibility for their atrocities,” he said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appeared to condemn the alleged murder when he posted on his Instagram account on Monday evening this message: “Glory to our hero…Glory to Ukraine”.
