The Wasps, former champions of England and Europe will play at the bottom of the hierarchy next season. The announcement was made by the English Federation on Thursday. In mid-February, the club had obtained a conditional authorization to play in the Championship, the second English division, but this was revoked by the Federation (RFU).
The club was unable to provide evidence that rugby-related creditors, such as players with salary arrears, had been repaid. The RFU also considered that there was no “adapted governance structure” in place within the club. “The RFU was also concerned about the lack of progress in the recruitment of technical staff and players. The club explained that they could not fulfill these conditions […] until additional funding is obtained.added the Federation in its press release.
