Wawrinka advances to Indian Wells 2nd round

Stanislas Wawrinka, three-time Grand Slam winner, currently 100th in the world, qualified for the second round of the Indian Wells Masters 1000, beating Australian Aleksandar 6-4, 1-6, 6-1 Vukic (186th), Thursday.

The 37-year-old Swiss, finalist of the tournament in 2017, will face Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic (26th). Wawrinka, who remains on two quarter-finals in Marseille and Rotterdam, where he estimated “having played his best tennis in months“, tries to reconnect with his best level after two seasons marred by injuries.

Against Vukic, the winner of the Australian Open in 2014, of Roland-Garros in 2015 and of the US Open in 2016, was able to rely on a fairly effective first ball (10 aces), to start and finish strong his match, accusing an ephemeral slump in the middle, sanctioned by the loss of the second set.
