INTERVIEW – The churches are emptying but continue to be the object of a particular attachment on the part of the inhabitants, ures Father Gautier Mornas.

LE FIGARO. – The Conference of Bishops has just launched the Estates General of Religious Heritage. To do what?

Gautier MORNAS. – The goal is to mobilize awareness, both internally and externally. Our States General, organized on the eve of the presidential announcements, will extend over fifteen months, from today until the date reopening of Notre-Dame de Parisin December 2024. We will launch, through each diocese, a major national survey to take stock of the use of religious buildings, conduct hearings of ociations and qualified personalities in the preservation and enhancement of religious heritage to collect initiatives that would be replicable. Finally, study days and meetings will be offered regularly.

Without its religious heritage, France would not be France and the Church of France would not be the same either.
