what good is literature?

REVIEW – A powerful autobiographical book about incest and its consequences.

sad tiger is a great book. It is a book that is neither beautiful nor tender. It’s also not earth-shattering. So what? It is perfectly fair. Neige Sinno’s words are to the bone. She digs her tongue, she dissects it, there is a sort of struggle between her and the silence. It is a text that overflows from its pages with its questions, its depth and its fears. Neige Sinno speaks to us from the heart. And isn’t that what we seek through reading? It is life and death that beat in its lines.

What is the book about? In 1983, Neige Sinno was 6 years old, her stepfather, 24. She is a blonde with big green eyes. He is tall, charismatic, athletic. He wants to love her like his own daughter, he says. But the child doesn’t want to call him dad, she already has one, with a mother and a sister. Snow resists him. The man is big, as we have said, he is also strong, brutal. And one night, he joins her in bed, she doesn’t dare to resist. The night will last eight years.

A demand for fairness and justice
