Where to mix tourism with wine?


From plantation to final product, wine culture harmonizes perfectly with tourism. Within Rio Grande do Sul, throughout Brazil, close to the State – like Uruguay and Argentina -, or on the other side of the world – in Australia, for example -, there are plenty of attractive destinations for those interested in drinking, experiential travel and the gastronomy around it.

In the country, the Gaucho terroir is the absolute leader in the supply of wineries that serve tourists, accounting for more than 55% of enterprises, according to a Sebrae survey released in September, based on data from the Ministry of Agriculture and information collected from the establishment. wineries.

We invited six professionals with experience in the area to recommend wine tourism destinations from two angles: one that he knows and recommends with his eyes closed and another that is in his sights for a next trip. Check out.

Pinto Flag. The region is known for the high quality of its sparkling wines. It recently achieved the Altos de Pinto Bandeira Denomination of Origin, the first specialized in sparkling wines after the Champagne region in France. And it offers unique experiences in Brazil at incredible wineries, such as Cave Geisse, Don Giovanni, Valmarino and Aurora.

I still want to explore more of Minas Gerais. I visited a few wineries, but they all really surprised me with their winter wines and double pruning.

Two regions have my heart: the charm of Champagne in France, Épernay in particular, the birthplace of sparkling wines in the world, full of history. And without a doubt the Colchagua Valley, in Chile. The wineries are beautiful – a trip that can be taken as a couple, but with friends is also fun.

Pisco Valley, Peru. It has a surprising history and terroir (the first vines arrived with the Spanish between 1540 and 1550). It’s a unique mix of coast and desert, which results in cinematic settings. In addition to the quality wines and pisco, I recommend Bahía de Paracas and its various beaches, in the Paracas National Reserve, the coastal dunes and the marine cuisine, rich in fresh and varied ingredients.

Canary Islands, Spain. I have no shortage of reasons: besides being the birthplace of the gs I work with today, it is also a paradisiacal place, full of stories and beautiful beaches. For what else?

Two destinations are among my desires: Australia, for its diversity of landscapes, and California, in the United States, for the professionalism with which they develop wine tourism.

After visiting practically all the producing regions in the country, my heart stayed with Chapada Diamantina, in Bahia. There are still few wineries there, but there are enough to fill your eyes. In my opinion, the best is UVVA, in Mucugê.

I want to go
The Pantanal region, the only one I haven’t visited yet and where wine tourism is starting to appear. I can mention the Terroir Pantanal winery, in Aquidauana, in Mato Grosso do Sul.

In the state, in addition to the well-known Vale dos Vinhedos, I recommend Pinto Bandeira, for the sparkling wines. Also the Campanha region, with wineries on farms, which creates a different scenario from the Serra. Close to us, there is Uruguay. Among the wineries to visit, I highlight Del Quintón, Cerros de San Juan, El Legado and Narbona. Finally, Chile: the Valle del Maipo region, full of wineries and fantastic landscapes that include the Andes Mountains. There is the famous Conha Y Toro, but I like the smaller ones, like the Haras de Pirque bodega and also El Principal. Both have incredible scenery, very close to the mountain range.

I want to go
A destination that calls for urgency is Mendoza, in Argentina. In addition to producing high quality wines, the combination of different wine tourism programs and the favorable exchange rate are major attractions. I also want to know California wines, from the Napa Valley region. It is interesting to be able to include programs in nearby cities, such as San Francisco, and also take the opportunity to learn about local production.
