Constantly rising for a year, private salaried employment continues to rise, but at a slower pace at 0.1%.
Private salaried employment increased by 0.1% in the second quarter in France with 12,200 net job creations, according to the final estimate published Thursday by theInsee. Private salaried employment thus exceeded its level of a year earlier by 1.3% (i.e. +261,400 jobs) and that before the health crisis (end of 2019) by 6.1% (i.e. +1.2 million jobs). jobs).
Compared to the provisional estimate published in early August, net job creations in the private sector have been revised downwards (-7,500 jobs), but without changing the change in percentage. In the previous quarter, private salaried employment had increased by 0.4% (+94,100 jobs), this quarter therefore marking a marked slowdown.
Temporary employment still high
In detail, the interim, comp of the employment market, fell by 0.5% (or -4,300 jobs) after -2.5% in the previous quarter (or -20,400 jobs). Temporary employment remains above its level before the health crisis (+1.5%). Excluding temporary work, private salaried employment slowed markedly in the commercial tertiary sector: +0.2% (i.e. +22,100 jobs), after +0.8% in the first quarter of 2023 (i.e. +96,700 jobs). It exceeds its level before the health crisis by 7.7% (i.e. +911,000 jobs).
Paid employment in the non-market tertiary sector increased by 0.1% (i.e. +7,400 jobs) in the second quarter of 2023, after +0.2% in the previous quarter. Industrial salaried employment (excluding temporary workers) increased by 0.2% (i.e. +5,600 jobs), after +0.3% in the first quarter of 2023. After having caught up to its pre-crisis level in the third quarter of 2021, it exceeded it now 2% (i.e. 65,200 net jobs created since the end of 2019).
In construction, salaried employment excluding temporary work fell in the second quarter of 2023 (-0.5% or -7,300 jobs) after being stable in the previous quarter. It is almost at its level of a year earlier (-0.1%) but 7.4% above its level at the end of 2019. In addition, in the civil service, salaried employment is almost stable (+ 0.1%, i.e. +8,700 jobs). It exceeds its level before the health crisis by 1.2% (i.e. +73,200 jobs).
