WTA tournament in Indian Wells – Świątek in the semi-finals

The highest seeded and leading in the world ranking Iga Świątek defeated the Romanian Sorana Cirstea 6:2, 6:3 and advanced to the semi-finals of the WTA 1000 tennis tournament on hard courts in Indian Wells. Her next rival will be Yelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan (No. 10).
Świątek started with a quick victory in the first game and broke the Romanian in the second game, but then the rival took over the initiative for a while. After two more, much more fierce games, the score was 2:2.
However, it was one of the few moments when Cirstea, 83rd in the world ranking, resisted the Polish favorite. Świątek later won eight games in a row, encountering difficulties only in the last of the first set, when she had to struggle a bit longer to break her rival. Eventually, she won the second set 6:3, losing one game on her own serve.

In the 1/8 finals, it was easier for her with the British Emma Raducan – 6:3, 6:1.
The semi-final rival of Świątek – seeded No. 10. Rybakina – previously defeated the Czech Karolina Muchova 7:6 (7-4), 2:6, 6:4. The Polish woman has played with the representative of Kazakhstan twice so far. She won in two sets two years ago in Ostrava, but in this year’s Australian Open, in the 1/8 finals, Rybakina was on top.
In the second round, Magda Linette was eliminated, defeated by Emma Raducan. The Poznań resident also competed in doubles, together with Caty McNally. The Polish-American duo reached the quarterfinals.
