From 2023 to 2026 Yandex intends to train 350,000 IT specialists, which is three times more than in the previous three years. This was announced by the director of education at Yandex, Daria Kozlova, at the Yet another Conference on Education (YaC/e).
“Proficiency in technology and the ability to program are no longer the prerogative of those who are called “IT specialists.” We have been training specialists for the IT industry for a long time: developers, testers, analysts, but we also have programs for people from other areas,” the corporation’s press service quotes Kozlova.
Yandex explained that the number of IT specialists will increase due to the introduction of new training formats, the emergence of new training programs, expanding partnerships with universities and the use of solutions based on generative neural networks.
In particular, over three years the company will train 150,000 schoolchildren and college students. Yandex programs will also appear in more than 20 universities and institutes. It is expected that by 2026 the number of students in such programs will be 12,000. Yandex will also launch interdisciplinary programs for students in non-IT fields. As part of professional training at Yandex.Practicum, it is planned to train 200,000 IT specialists.
At the end of September, the Chairman of the Board of Sberbank, German Gref, estimated the personnel shortage in the IT industry at 1 million people. The Ministry of Digital Development claimed that there is a shortage of about 500,000–700,000 specialists in this area. The need for personnel remains, despite the increase in the personnel base, explained the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Maksut Shadayev.
