This new edition sold like hot cakes on Friday, with long queues in front of video game stores all over the world. So much so that the game became the fastest sold in Europe and the United States, all consoles combined, by Nintendo.
For Japan alone, it sold 2.4 million copies. In comparison, the game “Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy” from the famous Harry Potter saga, released in February, sold 15 million units in three months worldwide.
Success of the Switch
In total, all editions of the Zelda game, originally designed in 1986, have sold over 140 million units worldwide. A real gold mine for Nintendo.
The previous edition of the saga, which features an elf in a green tunic armed with a sword, was already recognized worldwide as one of the best games ever published on Nintendo’s Switch console . This old version released in 2017 had revolutionized the “open world” video game format, that is to say a game in which the player has multiple choices and many possible trajectories, which allows greater creativity.
“Seven years after its arrival on the market, the Nintendo Switch continues to attract players, like this new release breaking all records,” said the president of Nintendo Europe, Stephan Bole. The company hopes to sell another 15 million Nintendo Switch over the rest of 2023.
